The Federal Government has expressed condolences to the Government and people of Qatar over the death of the country’s Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Nigeria extended its sympathies to the Qatari leadership, the Al Thani family and the people of Qatar.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who served as Emir of Qatar from 1995 to 2013, was described by Nigeria as a distinguished and visionary leader whose contributions to the development and modernisation of Qatar left a lasting impact on the country and the wider region.
The statement noted that his commitment to progress, wisdom and international cooperation would continue to be remembered by the people of Qatar, Gulf countries and global partners.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, on behalf of the Federal Government and people of Nigeria, conveyed Nigeria’s condolences to the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the Qatari people.
She expressed Nigeria’s solidarity with Qatar during the mourning period and prayed for strength and comfort for the late Amir’s family and the people of Qatar.
