Nigeria Cricket Federation Names Mangongo as New Head Coach

The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) today announced Stephen Maziva Mangongo as its new Head Coach and High‑Performance Manager, with the appointment taking effect on 1 July 2026 under a three‑year contract.

Mangongo, an ICC Level 3 certified coach, brings more than 30 years of experience in coaching and player development. He has led Zimbabwe’s U‑15, U‑19, Zimbabwe A, and senior national teams, helping to build talent pipelines and high‑performance systems.

Uyi Akpata, President of the NCF, said the move was a strategic step toward realizing the federation’s vision of a sustainable cricket structure that can produce world‑class players and competitive national sides. “Nigeria cricket must continue to pursue professionalism and excellence if we are to compete with the best teams across the world,” he added.

During the ongoing Nigeria Super League in Lagos, Mangongo will meet and observe the country’s top players. He will be formally unveiled before stakeholders this afternoon (Wednesday 27 May 2026) at the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval.

In his new role, Mangongo will oversee the technical development of national teams, coach‑education programmes, player pathways, and the implementation of high‑performance structures aimed at improving Nigeria’s global standing.

The NCF remains committed to advancing cricket development, expanding grassroots participation, and positioning Nigeria as a leading cricket nation in Africa.
