Nigeria Cricket Federation announces franchise squads for inaugural Super League

The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), together with the Nigeria Super League Local Organising Committee (LOC), has announced the franchise squads, captains, and coaching staff that will take part in the inaugural Nigeria Super League (NSL), scheduled from 16 May to 31 May 2026.

The launch of the Nigeria Super League represents a pivotal milestone for the sport’s development in the nation.

Conceived as a high‑performance domestic franchise competition, the league aims to reinforce Nigeria’s cricket framework by establishing a clear progression from grassroots programmes to international representation.

For the first time, the country’s top cricket talent will compete within a professionally managed franchise setting that blends elite competition, player development, fan engagement, and national pride.

Commenting on the league’s purpose, NCF President Mr Uyi Akpata said the NSL is a decisive move toward elevating domestic cricket standards while providing emerging players with a larger platform to excel.

“The Nigeria Super League is not just another tournament. It is a platform built to inspire the next generation, sharpen elite talent, and position Nigerian cricket for greater international success,” he said.

Six franchises will contest the opening edition, each guided by seasoned captains and supported by experienced coaching teams.

The competition will commence on Saturday, 16 May 2026, with matches arranged in a round‑robin format: Morning Session at 9:30 am and Afternoon Session at 1:00 pm.

Group‑stage matches will continue until 27 May, after which the tournament will move to knockout rounds, culminating in the Grand Final on Saturday, 30 May 2026.
