Team Nigeria will begin a three‑week overseas training camp in preparation for this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Just days earlier, the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) announced the 29 athletes selected to represent the country at the Games.

The athletes, drawn from a range of track and field disciplines, will first train in Abuja with other sports representatives before heading to Aberdeen, Scotland, for the overseas camp that starts on July 2.

The Nigeria Sports Commission (NSC) expressed confidence that the 29 athletes will meet expectations and bring home medals for Nigeria.

At the top of the selection list is Tobi Amusan, Nigeria’s sprint‑hurdles star and two‑time Commonwealth Games champion, whose experience is expected to provide leadership for the team.

Other top performers invited include Kayinsola Ajayi, Favour Ashe, Ese Brume and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, along with a mix of seasoned internationals and emerging talents across sprints, relays, jumps and throws.

NSC Director General Olopade said the team’s composition demonstrates Nigeria’s determination to contest for medals, noting that the chosen athletes have consistently proven themselves at the highest level.

The NSC added that the Abuja camp will supply the training and support needed to fine‑tune the athletes’ preparations before the final phase in Scotland.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to providing athletes and officials with the resources and support required to ensure Team Nigeria arrives in Glasgow fully ready to compete for honours at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
