Team Nigeria secured another gold medal at the ongoing Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana, on Friday.

The women's 4×100m relay team—Rosemary Chigozie, Jennifer Obi Chukwuka, Rosemary Chukwuma and Miracle Ezechukwu—won gold with a time of 42.94 seconds.

The quartet finished ahead of Liberia, who took silver, and the host nation Ghana, which placed third.

In the men's 4×100m relay, Nigeria’s team of Favour Ashe, James Emmanuel, Tejiri Godwin and Chidera Ezeakor earned a silver medal, recording 38.70 seconds.

They were bested by Ivory Coast, which ran 38.52 seconds to win the event.

Additional medal prospects remain, as Nnamdi Adeboye Onweaze qualified for the men’s 110m hurdles final.

Onweaze will compete in the final on Saturday after finishing the semi‑final in 14.09 seconds, behind Senegal’s Louis Mendy, who won the heat in 13.65 seconds.

The 24th Senior Athletic Championships began on 12 May and will conclude on 17 May. (NAN)
