The Niger State Police Command has declared that it will enforce regulations immediately against vehicles that have covered, defaced, or missing registration plates throughout the state.
In a statement from Police Public Relations Officer SP Wasiu Abiodun, the action was said to counter the increasing practice of motorists deliberately covering, tampering with, or removing their vehicle plates.
The command noted that such conduct contravenes Section 10(3) of the Road Traffic Act 2004 and Regulation 38 of the National Road Traffic Regulations 2012, both of which mandate that all vehicles on public roads display valid registration plates at all times.
Commissioner of Police CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman has instructed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to begin enforcing the regulations immediately across the state.
The command urged vehicle owners to confirm that their vehicles are properly registered, display plates on both the front and rear, and eliminate any coverings or obstructions that might impede identification.
It also requested cooperation from motorists, transport unions, and the public during the enforcement effort, describing the measure as essential for public safety and national security.
