The first group of 345 pilgrims from Niger departed from the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport in Minna late Monday night, bound for Madinah, Saudi Arabia.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Flynas Airline lifted off at approximately 10:15 p.m. with the pilgrims on board.
The delegation consists of 227 men and 118 women from the Chanchaga and Borgu Local Government Areas.
Governor Mohammed Umaru‑Bago addressed the travelers before departure, urging them to serve as positive representatives of the state. He advised them not to accept items from strangers and to protect their belongings.
The governor also recommended that they drink plenty of water to remain hydrated and pray for peace in Nigeria, Niger, and for their families while in the Holy Land. He offered prayers for a safe journey and a successful Hajj.
Alhaji Yusuf Nuhu, the 2026 Niger Amirul Hajj and Emir of Agaie, expressed satisfaction with the level of preparation. He reminded the pilgrims to obey Saudi Arabian laws throughout their stay.
Several pilgrims interviewed by the News Agency of Nigeria said they were excited to take part in the 2026 Hajj. They praised the officials for the arrangements and pledged to pray for an end to insecurity and other challenges affecting the nation and Niger in particular.
The agency reported that Niger has a total of 2,281 pilgrims slated for the 2026 Hajj, who will be transported in six scheduled flights.
