Due to escalating security threats that have resulted in property destruction and fatalities, the Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State has declared a 24‑hour curfew.
Chairperson of the LGA, Mrs. Virginia Baba Bambur, explained that the curfew was necessary because violence had intensified, with armed militias carrying out multiple attacks on Wurkum communities near Didango, Mutum Daya Kodai, Gurum, and other nearby settlements. These assaults have caused several deaths and forced many residents to flee.
She noted that fresh attacks occurred on Thursday and Friday, further deteriorating the security situation. The latest surge in violence prompted the curfew’s implementation in the affected communities within the local government area.
Mrs. Bambur ordered all security agencies—including the Army, Police, Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps—to enforce the curfew strictly. She said the government would conduct a thorough investigation into the crisis’s root causes and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
She urged residents to stay calm, assuring them that efforts are underway to restore peace and stability in the affected areas.
