NELFUND denies rumors, confirms suspension of student upkeep allowances.

The Nigerian government has denied allegations that it has halted the Students Upkeep Allowance under its loan program.

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) issued a statement from spokesperson Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi on Thursday.

These remarks come after circulating reports claimed that the government had suspended students’ upkeep allowances.

In its response, NELFUND stated that no directive exists to suspend the allowances.

It called the claims “false and misleading.”

“NELFUND also urges the public to refrain from sharing unverified content that can spread misinformation and cause unnecessary anxiety among students and parents nationwide,” the statement read.

“The Fund remains steadfast in its commitment to expanding access to higher education and supporting Nigerian students through sustainable financing initiatives,” it added.
