NECO Releases 2026 BECE Results, Fixes Date for Resit Exam

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced that the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results are now available. A total of 186,291 candidates registered for the exam, which covered 12 subjects.

NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, noted that the candidates came from all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and five foreign countries.

“The examination commenced on 20 April 2026 and concluded on 30 April 2026,” the statement read.

NECO explained that the results were released after the successful 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting, which was held at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

The statement added, “The result of the Examination was released following the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the Council’s Headquarters in Minna, Niger State.”

During the meeting, Dr. (Mrs.) Folake Olatunji David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, who represented Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, expressed satisfaction with the processes that led to the release of the results.

NECO said that the meeting was attended by members of its management team and selected secondary school principals from across the country.

In related news, the Award Committee has scheduled the BECE resit examination for 22 and 23 July 2026, covering Mathematics and English Studies.

“The Re‑sit examination is scheduled to hold on 22 and 23 July 2026 for Mathematics and English Studies,” the statement said.

NECO explained that the resit exam is intended for candidates who have conditional deficiencies in either Mathematics, English Studies, or both.

“The Re‑sit examination is conducted for candidates that have conditional deficiencies in Mathematics or English studies or both,” the statement continued. “The Re‑sit examination is to enable affected candidates to remedy deficiencies in mathematics and English Studies, allowing them to obtain the necessary certification for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School (SSS1) without repeating a full academic year.”
