The candidates came from the 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and five foreign countries.

The examination began on April 20 and finished on April 30, 2026.

The results were approved and released after the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at NECO Headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

At the meeting, the Chairperson of the Award Committee, Dr. Folake Olatunji David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education and representative of the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, expressed satisfaction with the processes that led to the successful release of the results.

The meeting was attended by secondary school principals from across the country as well as members of the NECO management.

Meanwhile, the Award Committee has approved July 22 and 23, 2026, for the conduct of the BECE Re‑sit Examination in Mathematics and English Studies.

The re‑sit examination is intended for candidates with conditional deficiencies in Mathematics, English Studies, or both, providing them with an opportunity to remedy those deficiencies and obtain the certification required for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School (SSS1) without repeating an academic year.
