The Taraba State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced a significant victory in its anti‑drug trafficking campaign, seizing more than 1.1 tonnes of cannabis during an intelligence‑driven operation in Bali Local Government Area.

The operation, carried out on 13 June 2026 in Maihula town, resulted in the recovery of 70 bags of *Cannabis sativa* that weighed a total of 1,121.5 kilograms, or approximately 1.12 metric tonnes.

NDLEA officers also arrested a 45‑year‑old suspect, Ali Adamu, after the illicit drugs were reportedly found in his warehouse.

Taraba State Commander of the NDLEA, Javanson Talayedi Kwalma, said the seizure was one of the command’s most important operational successes since its inception.

“The operation demonstrates our determination to dismantle drug trafficking networks and protect communities across the state from the dangers of illicit drugs,” Kwalma said.

The suspect remains in NDLEA custody and is cooperating with investigators as authorities continue to identify and apprehend other individuals linked to the illegal drug operation.

The command praised the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd), Taraba State Governor Dr Agbu Kefas, the officers who took part in the operation, and the members of the public whose intelligence helped secure the seizure.

The agency reiterated its commitment to intensifying efforts against drug trafficking and substance abuse while bolstering measures designed to safeguard communities throughout Taraba State.
