* NEC to meet in Abuja June 3
Sunday Aborisade in Abuja
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has formally rejected the various results of its nationwide primaries that have been circulating on social media, stating that no official candidate has yet been declared for the 2027 general election.
According to the party, all primary results from the elections held on May 28 and 29 are currently held by its National Executive Council (NEC), the sole body authorized to validate and announce the outcomes.
In a statement released on Sunday by the National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC urged members, supporters and the public to ignore any purported results shared online.
“The general public is hereby urged to disregard the various results circulating on social media as the outcome of the nationwide primaries conducted by the Nigeria Democratic Congress on the 28th and 29th of May, 2026,” the statement read.
The clarification comes amid growing speculation about the candidates who might emerge from the party’s presidential, governorship, National Assembly and state assembly primaries.
The statement reiterated that the results have been submitted to the NEC, which is solely responsible for announcing the winners after due consideration and ratification.
To facilitate the process, the party’s National Leader, former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson, has called for an NEC meeting in Abuja.
NEC members were asked to arrive in the Federal Capital Territory on Tuesday, June 2, for a pre‑NEC session, with the substantive meeting scheduled for Wednesday, June 3.
The party said the meeting would review the primary outcomes and make the necessary decisions regarding the party’s candidates for the 2027 polls.
It also assured stakeholders that the official list of candidates would be released only after the party completes its internal processes and forwards the names of successful aspirants to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“The general public and stakeholders will be availed of the results of our primaries when we send the list of candidates to fly our party’s flag to INEC,” the statement added.
Thus, despite widespread reports and claims on social media, the NDC has not yet officially ratified or declared any winner from its nationwide primary elections.
The upcoming NEC meeting is expected to be pivotal in determining the party’s final lineup ahead of preparations for the 2027 general election.
