NDC disowns circulating candidate lists for Imo, Abia, Anambra elections

By Henry Umoru

ABUJA – The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has rejected the candidate lists that are currently circulating on social media for the elections in Imo, Abia, Anambra and other affected states, calling them fake and unauthorised.

The party said it is investigating the origin of the fake lists, although it has not released the details of the candidates whose names were officially submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

On Friday, the party’s National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Enekweizu, issued a statement urging members and the public to ignore the lists, asserting that they did not come from the party’s national headquarters.

“the general public ,especially members of the NDC in Imo, Abia, Anambra and other affected states, are hereby urged to disregard the lists of candidates widely circulating on social media as the authentic lists of our party’s candidates from the aforementioned States. The said lists are fake and did not emanate from the party headquarters.

“Our party has since submitted the lists of authentic candidates that will fly our party’s flag to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, using the appropriate channel as approved by the Electoral Act.

“Such lists in circulation are being peddled by mischief makers and those who do not wish the party well. However, the party is investigating the sources of such fabrications and leaks, as they are desperate attempts to sow ill will and create distractions within the party. This is to reassure our members that the NDC is robustly committed to building a party that would serve as a vehicle to liberate Nigeria from its present parlous state with the cooperation of everyone.”
