The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed reports and unofficial announcements circulating on social media regarding the outcome of its Enugu State primary elections, describing them as false, unauthorised and misleading.
The party’s National Secretary, Barr. Ikenna Morgan, while responding to inquiries from journalists, confirmed that the primaries were successfully conducted on Friday, May 29, 2026, in line with the Electoral Act, the party’s constitution and established democratic procedures.
According to him, the exercise covered key elective positions, including President, Governor, Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly candidates.
He disclosed that members of the party’s National Electoral Committee from Abuja supervised the exercise, while officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) monitored the process.
“It was a direct primary election where every eligible member of the party voted for candidates of their choice.
“The Nigeria Democratic Congress successfully conducted its primary elections in Enugu State. The process was orderly, transparent and in full compliance with the Electoral Act and the constitution of our great party,” he said.
The National Secretary said although collation and verification of results had been concluded, no official declaration had yet been made by the party’s National Electoral Committee or national leadership.
“The results have been duly received by the party. However, contrary to reports circulating online, no official announcement has been made. Any individual or platform claiming to possess or announce the official results is acting without authorisation,” he stated.
He urged party members, supporters and the public to disregard information emanating from unofficial sources, stressing that authentic results would be released only through the party’s constitutional channels after the completion of internal administrative and ratification processes.
The party further assured aspirants and stakeholders that the integrity of the electoral process remained intact and that transparency, fairness and due process would guide all subsequent actions.
According to the National Secretary, the names of successful candidates would be formally transmitted to INEC in compliance with statutory requirements once all internal procedures are completed.
“In line with the Electoral Act and the provisions of the NDC Constitution, the names and details of duly elected candidates will be officially submitted to INEC after the necessary internal processes. The party remains committed to upholding democratic principles and the rule of law,” he said.
The clarification follows growing speculation and conflicting reports on social media over the identities of purported winners in the Enugu State primaries.
The NDC insisted that the lists being circulated online did not originate from the party and should be regarded as rumours without official standing.
The party called on members and the public to remain patient and await official communication from its national leadership, reaffirming its commitment to credible internal elections and democratic participation.
