Controller of Nigeria Correctional Services (NCS) in Cross River State, Aniekan Nyah, said he was still awaiting the findings of a five‑member committee that is investigating allegations that ex‑convicts and other hoodlums are occupying the agency’s property.
Muri Eyo Effiong Okon, V, the clan head of Efut Akani Esuk in Calabar South LGA, alleged that ex‑convicts who could not trace their origins after discharge were occupying certain correctional‑service properties within his domain and were committing additional crimes.
He further claimed that the agency had constructed shops and residential apartments and allocated them to the ex‑convicts for specified fees.
The monarch has called for the correctional facility to be relocated from his domain, asserting that it does not benefit the community.
Nyah, speaking through the agency’s public relations officer in Cross River, Mr Effanga Etim, said that an investigation committee was formed after the allegations were received.
Etim added that the controller had proactively constituted a five‑member committee to investigate the allegations.
He denied that the agency was harboring ex‑convicts in its facilities in the state.
