The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), together with Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) and Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics (LADOL), has launched a 12‑month Human Capacity Development (HCD) programme. The initiative is designed to give young Nigerians the skills needed to support supply‑base operations in the oil and gas sector.

The programme began yesterday at the LADOL free zone in Apapa, Lagos. Twelve participants will receive a blend of classroom instruction and hands‑on industry experience in areas such as logistics, trade, procurement and supply‑chain management.

At the opening ceremony, NCDMB Executive Secretary Mr. Felix Ogbe was represented by Human Capacity Development General Manager Ms. Alexis Emelle. She described the programme as more than training, calling it an investment in people and the future of Nigeria’s energy industry.

A statement signed by NCDMB Corporate Communications General Manager Dr. Obinna Ezeobi quoted Ogbe, noting that the programme demonstrates the board’s commitment to building a skilled workforce that can meet the industry’s evolving needs and create opportunities for young Nigerians in specialised roles.

Mr. Ezeobi reminded the trainees that their selection carries responsibility and urged them to approach the training with discipline, commitment and a willingness to learn.

Mr. Ogbe said the industry demands professionals who are dependable, adaptable and solution‑oriented, and that every assignment, lesson and practical experience should be viewed as a chance to build competence and character.

Representing SNEPCo, Nigerian Content Manager Mr. Obiajulu Onochie highlighted human‑capital development as a key element of operational excellence. He linked the success of Nigerian content to the work of NCDMB and praised the board for its professionalism in driving capacity development.

Mr. Onochie noted that SNEPCo has launched several training programmes this year, covering cybersecurity, NEBOSH, blockchain architecture and subsea disciplines, and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to local content development, stressing that investing in people is essential for a sustainable energy industry.

A LADOL representative emphasized the importance of Nigerian content for indigenous businesses, stating that without local content “LADOL would not exist in its present form.” She reiterated the organisation’s commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen local capacity and prepare young Nigerians for meaningful careers in the sector.

After a rigorous two‑stage selection process, the 12 beneficiaries will undergo training aimed at equipping them with the practical skills needed to support supply‑base operations and enhance Nigeria’s local content capacity.

Speaking for the trainees, Mr. Olaniye Sodiq thanked NCDMB, SNEPCo, LADOL and all training partners for investing in their development. He said the beneficiaries are eager to learn and look forward to contributing meaningfully to LADOL and the wider oil and gas industry once the programme concludes.

The human capacity development initiative underscores NCDMB’s commitment to building sustainable local capacity by aligning training programmes with industry needs and creating pathways for young Nigerians to access high‑value career opportunities within the energy sector.
