The Director General of the National Boundary Commission (NBC), Adamu Adaji, met with members of the committee reviewing Nigeria’s Border Management System at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, as part of a joint effort to address insecurity.

The committee was created by the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa, to strengthen Nigeria’s border management framework in line with current security realities, according to Chinwe Udouwem, Head of Information, Press and Public Relations Unit at NBC.

In his welcome address, Adaji praised the minister’s work in enhancing national security through strategic border governance reforms and reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to supporting the committee’s mandate.

He stressed that effective border governance is essential for safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity, fostering peaceful inter‑state relations, and tackling emerging security threats such as terrorism, arms trafficking, irregular migration, transnational crime, and climate‑induced displacement.

Adaji called for a comprehensive, collaborative approach that includes security agencies, border communities, sub‑national governments, traditional institutions, and regional partners.

He also highlighted the need for investments in border infrastructure, technology, intelligence sharing, and cross‑border cooperation.

Adaji noted that the local cross‑border cooperation platforms established by the NBC along Nigeria’s international borders continue to build trust, promote social cohesion, and enable collective responses to shared challenges.

In his remarks, the committee’s leader, Brig. Gen. M.B. Shehu, thanked the director general for the warm reception and requested the commission’s cooperation in fulfilling the committee’s mandate.
