A factional chairman of the Labour Party, LP, in Nasarawa State, Alexander Ombugu, has raised concerns over alleged threats to his life, calling on security agencies to urgently intervene and guarantee his safety.
Ombugu made the allegation while addressing journalists in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, on Saturday.
The LP chieftain suggested that the alleged threats may not be unconnected with his stance on certain internal party matters and his role during the recently concluded party primary elections in the state.
Although he declined to publicly identify those allegedly behind the threats, Ombugu maintained that he possesses information that would be better disclosed to security operatives to avoid compromising ongoing or future investigations.
According to him, the matter requires immediate attention from law enforcement agencies to prevent any potential harm and ensure that those responsible are identified.
He appealed to security agencies to provide him with adequate protection and launch a thorough investigation into the alleged intimidation.
“I have conducted myself within the confines of the law since joining active politics. In all my activities, I have remained committed to the constitution of the Labour Party and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.
Ombugu stressed that he had never engaged in any act capable of warranting hostility or threats against his person, insisting that his actions within the party have always been guided by principles of transparency and due process.
He further urged relevant authorities to take proactive measures to safeguard his life and ensure that those behind the alleged threats are brought to justice.
“The fact is that I have not wronged anyone. I therefore appeal to security agencies to provide the necessary protection and carry out a proper investigation so that my safety can be guaranteed,” he added.
The development comes amid heightened political activities and internal realignments within political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nasarawa State.
