Nasarawa 2027: Labour Party clears Labaran Maku, Gaza, others for primaries

The Labour Party, LP, has cleared several aspirants seeking to contest various elective positions in Nasarawa State ahead of the party’s 2027 general elections primaries.

This was contained in the official report of the party’s National Screening Committee for governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly aspirants in the state.

According to the document dated May 23, 2026, the screening exercise was conducted in line with the provisions of the Labour Party constitution, the party’s electoral guidelines, and the rules guiding the 2026 primary elections.

The committee stated that all aspirants who participated in the screening process were thoroughly assessed based on legal and democratic requirements guiding the party’s nomination process and were subsequently cleared to contest in the primaries.

Among those cleared for the governorship race are.. Gaza Jonathan Gbefwi, while former Minister of Information, Hon. Labaran Maku, was cleared to contest for the Nasarawa South Senatorial seat.

For the House of Representatives category, the committee cleared Dr Emmanuel Akolo, Jesse James Ayang, and Blanzon Adaamu Bako to participate in the primaries.

Similarly, thirteen aspirants were cleared to contest for seats in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly. They include Asilika Essla, Mohammed Ibrahim, Hon. Ashy David Maiyaki, Alexander Abashi Dauda, Gown Shedrack Awayima, Bala Umaru, Zamani Iliya Helima, Barr. Labani Emmanuel Nnengon, Madoki Margaret, Iyimoga Osoweshi Daniel, Jacob Omaku Attah, and Ipah Jonathan Afagher.

The committee commended all aspirants for their cooperation and commitment throughout the screening exercise and expressed confidence in their ability to participate peacefully in the forthcoming party primaries.

The report was signed by the Chairman of the National Screening Committee, Sen. Nenadi E. Usman, PhD, and the Secretary, Hon. Iheanacho Obioma.
