Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, revealed on Thursday that he turned to fasting and prayer in an effort to secure funding for road projects in the capital.

Wike said he experienced a rise in blood pressure while seeking the necessary funds for the road works.

The comments were made during the commissioning of the new Airport Expressway to Kuje road, an event attended by President Bola Tinubu. Tinubu was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the ceremony, which marked the president’s third anniversary in office.

Wike explained, “As I speak to you they also request the dualization of the Kuje to Gwagwalada road and knowing fully well that God is with this administration, he will never disappoint, we committed ourselves to dualize Kuje to Gwagwalada.”

He added, “Your Excellency, it may interest you to know that the only thing that makes me very happy today is that we are commissioning this particular road.”

Wike thanked the Managing Director of Arab Contractors, who had repeatedly mentioned being in Egypt for medical reasons. “I would say come back because we have good hospitals to take care of you here,” he said.

He recalled, “Each time I call he would say Minister, each time you call my BP will go high and when he requests for money my BP will also go high.”

Wike said he urged the FCT Minister to include the road in his travel requests so that divine assistance would help secure the necessary funds for contractors. “I don’t use to fast before but I started fasting from morning till night because of this particular road but I thank God he has answered our prayers,” he concluded.
