Musetti Pulls Out of Wimbledon

Former Wimbledon semifinalist Lorenzo Musetti has withdrawn from the 2026 Wimbledon Championships to recover from a lingering left thigh injury.

Musetti sustained the injury at the Italian Open in May, which also caused him to miss the French Open.

Despite progress in rehabilitation, Musetti said he was not ready for full training.

“Rehabilitation is going very well and the medical results are encouraging. Unfortunately, as I have not yet been able to begin a full athletic training program, and after careful evaluation, we have come to the difficult conclusion that I will not be able to participate in Wimbledon this year,” the 15th‑ranked Musetti said on Instagram on Wednesday.

“It is not an easy decision, but it is the right one. My priority is to return to the court at 100 %.”

His withdrawal opens a direct spot in the main draw for fellow Italian Matteo Berrettini.

Lorenzo Musetti is a top‑15 ATP singles player and a former World No. 5. Known for his aesthetically pleasing one‑handed backhand and strong clay‑court play, his career highlights include reaching the Wimbledon semifinals, earning a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, and winning his first ATP Masters 1000 final at Monte Carlo.

His ascent to the sport’s upper echelons was driven by a stellar clay season and an impressive ATP Masters 1000 run.

He has also been a key member of the Italian squad that won back‑to‑back Davis Cups.
