Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has urged the Ogun State Police Command to arrest and prosecute the individuals who attacked a group of Muslims in Ota.

The request follows an incident that occurred in the Ijagba area of Ota, where members of the Muslim community from Oko filling were assaulted.

According to reports, the attack took place on Thursday, 14 May 2026.

The victims were targeted while they were installing CCTV cameras and solar security lights at the Muslim cemetery in Oko filling.

MURIC described the event as unfortunate in a statement signed by its Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

The statement noted that the victims sustained varying degrees of injury and are currently receiving medical care in hospital.

“The attackers came wielding dangerous weapons and were accompanied by two wild dogs that were barking ferociously. The victims fled into the bush, but one of them, Al‑Hilal, was unlucky,” the statement read.

Professor Akintola called on the Itele police division in Ota to pursue the case rigorously until justice is achieved.

“We appeal to the police to continue performing their duties diligently. They should not allow any external forces to sweep the case under the carpet. It should be noted that human life is involved as Al‑Hilal lies critically ill in the hospital,” the statement added.
