Mishel Nduka: Who is the future Super Eagles star joining Man City after rejecting Arsenal?

Manchester City have won a notable academy transfer battle after agreeing a deal to sign highly rated teenage midfielder Mishel Nduka from Arsenal, Afrik-Foot reports.

The 16-year-old, who is eligible to represent both England and Nigeria, has turned down Arsenal’s offer of a long-term contract in favour of continuing his development at Manchester City’s world-famous academy.

The move is significant because Nduka is regarded as one of the brightest dual-nationality prospects in England who could one day wear the green and white of the Super Eagles.

Continuing their aggressive recruitment of elite young talent, Man City convinced Nduka to swap Arsenal’s Hale End academy for the Etihad Campus. According to transfer expert David Ornstein, the attacking midfielder is expected to complete his medical before officially joining City on scholarship terms.

Because he is only 16, Nduka cannot immediately sign a full professional contract. Instead, he will join City’s academy before automatically signing professional terms when he turns 17 in April next year.

Despite his age, he made 10 appearances for Arsenal’s Under-18 team before earning promotion to the Under-21 squad in Premier League 2. He also gained valuable European experience by featuring in the UEFA Youth League, showing coaches that he was capable of playing against the best young players on the continent.

Arsenal hoped those performances would convince him to stay and offered him an attractive long-term deal. However, the youngster decided Manchester City’s development pathway gave him a better chance of reaching the first team.

His biggest strengths are his calmness under pressure, excellent passing range and ability to find space between opposition midfielders and defenders. Coaches also praise his intelligence, quick decision-making and confidence when receiving the ball in crowded areas.

One of his standout qualities is his press resistance. Rather than panicking when opponents close him down, Nduka often uses quick turns and clever touches to escape pressure before driving his team forward. His vision allows him to create chances with accurate through balls, while his versatility means he can play in several midfield roles depending on his team’s tactical setup.

Like many players his age, however, there are still areas to improve. He needs to become physically stronger to cope with senior football, improve his defensive work without the ball and become more effective in aerial duels. Coaches also believe he sometimes tries difficult passes instead of making the simpler option.

His style has earned comparisons with England and Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham because of his ability to carry the ball through midfield, combine creativity with athleticism and influence games in several positions.

Under FIFA rules, youth appearances do not permanently tie a player to one country. Until he plays a competitive senior international for England, he remains free to switch his allegiance to Nigeria.

The NFF has built a strong reputation for attracting dual-nationality stars in recent years, with players such as Ademola Lookman, Calvin Bassey, Ola Aina, Alex Iwobi and William Troost-Ekong all choosing the Super Eagles after developing abroad.

Reports also suggest Nigerian scouts have followed Nduka’s progress since his days at Charlton Athletic, while his continued connection to his Nigerian roots has encouraged hopes that he could eventually join the Super Eagles.

His move to Manchester City’s academy is expected to accelerate his development even further. If he continues to progress through City’s Elite Development Squad and eventually reaches the Premier League, both England and Nigeria could face an intense battle for one of the most exciting young midfielders of his generation.
