Mimiko: Tinubu’s economic reforms prompted his move to the APC.

Former governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, said he joined the All Progressives Congress because of the reforms he believes President Bola Tinubu has implemented.

He made the announcement on Thursday following his formal induction into the APC. In Ondo City, he was welcomed by the party’s state chairman, Kolawole Babatunde, and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, together with his supporters.

Mimiko explained that his choice was motivated by his endorsement of the Tinubu administration’s ongoing initiatives to foster peace, progress, and national development.

He acknowledged that, despite remaining challenges, the government’s economic reforms and policy direction swayed his political alignment.

“There are a lot of good things being done by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government, and though much more will still have to be done, I am coming in to lend my support to ongoing efforts to keep Nigeria on the path of peace, progress and genuine development,” he said.

Mimiko also mentioned the current debates on decentralised policing, stating that the proposal is consistent with his long‑standing advocacy for state-controlled police forces.

APC State Chairman Kolawole Babatunde called Mimiko’s switch a “homecoming” and said it demonstrates the party’s increasing attractiveness in the state.

Former federal lawmaker Joseph Iranola Akinlaja added that Mimiko’s move would reinforce the APC’s organisational base in Ondo State and boost its prospects for upcoming elections.
