The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has refuted claims that the Nigerian military is undermining democratic institutions, affirming that the Armed Forces remain dedicated to constitutional order and civilian governance.

The clarification came from Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, who issued a statement in Abuja describing the allegations as false and misleading.

Gusau emphasized that the military continues to act professionally and with loyalty to the Constitution, carrying out its operations across the country strictly under lawful directives and in support of national security.

"The Armed Forces of Nigeria remain loyal to the Constitution and democratic institutions of the country. Any suggestion that the military is undermining democratic authorities is false, misleading and unfounded," the statement read.

He also urged Nigerians to ignore misinformation that could cause unnecessary alarm, reaffirming the military’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity while respecting democratic governance.
