Mastantuono missing as Messi captains Argentina at World Cup

Argentina’s national coach Lionel Scaloni announced on Thursday that Lionel Messi will serve as captain for the team at the upcoming World Cup, revealing a 26‑man squad.

Messi, 38, tops the list, while the squad notably excludes Real Madrid defender Franco Mastantuono.

This will be Messi’s sixth World Cup appearance, and he will lead Argentina as they defend the title won in Qatar four years ago.
