A 46‑year‑old man, Olaniyi Fakeye, appeared before a Grade ‘A’ Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan, on Tuesday to face allegations that he had stabbed his ex‑wife with a broken bottle.
Fakeye was arraigned on two counts of breach of peace and assault, but he pleaded not guilty to the charges presented by the police.
Prosecuting counsel, Inspector Ayodele Ayeni, informed the court that the alleged offences occurred on March 25 at approximately 9:30 p.m. in the staff quarters of University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.
Ayeni claimed that Fakeye attacked his ex‑wife, identified as Bosede, and inflicted serious injuries by stabbing her shoulder with a broken bottle.
The prosecutor said the offences violate Sections 249 and 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
Mrs S. M. Akintayo, the court president, granted Fakeye bail of N200,000 with two sureties of the same amount. She ruled that the sureties must present valid identification before the bail conditions could be finalized.
The case was adjourned to June 11 for further hearing.
