Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has declared Tuesday a work‑free day throughout the state to mark the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1448 AH.
He also sent his congratulations to the Muslim community in Oyo State and nationwide on the new Islamic calendar year.
He prayed that Almighty Allah would bestow upon them the grace and opportunity to celebrate many more Hijrah anniversaries in good health and prosperity.
In a memorandum signed by Secretary to the State Government Professor Musibau Babatunde, the governor urged Muslims to use the occasion to pray for continued peace, unity and prosperity in Oyo State and across Nigeria.
He also urged all residents to remain vigilant and security‑conscious before, during and after the Hijrah celebrations.
He asked them to report any suspicious movements or activities promptly to the relevant security agencies or via the state’s emergency number, 615.
