Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared Tuesday a work‑free day across the state to mark the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1448 AH.
The announcement appears in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Musibau Babatunde, on Monday.
Makinde also congratulated the Muslim community in Oyo State and throughout Nigeria on the new Islamic calendar year.
He urged Muslims to use the occasion to pray for continued peace, unity and prosperity in Oyo State and in Nigeria as a whole.
In addition, the governor called on all residents to stay vigilant and security‑conscious before, during and after the Hijrah celebrations.
He instructed people to report any suspicious movements or activities promptly to the relevant security agencies and via the state’s emergency number, 615.
