The Labour Party (LP) chapter in Abia State has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to prevent its internal disputes from escalating into actions that could threaten Abia's peace and security.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Iroegbu Emenike, LP noted that media attacks between supporters of APC candidate Eric Opah and former Minister Henry Ikoh over the governorship nomination could jeopardise the peace enjoyed by Abia residents.
LP said that a key driver of the crisis in Abia APC is the perception that the party has sidelined long‑standing loyal members in favour of individuals seen as having gained influence through financial clout.
The LP added that the sale of party tickets from the House of Assembly to the governorship, and the preference for the highest bidders over committed party faithful, has continued to breed resentment, division, and internal conflict.
“As a responsible ruling party, we are not interested in knowing who emerges as the candidate of the APC or any other political party.
