Liverpool FC has confirmed that Andoni Iraola has agreed to become the club’s new head coach for the 2026‑27 season.
The 43‑year‑old will take over at Anfield, succeeding Arne Slot who left the club on Saturday.
Iraola arrives after three strong Premier League campaigns with AFC Bournemouth, guiding them to European qualification for the first time in club history with a sixth‑place finish last month.
Born in the Basque region of northern Spain, Iraola had a lengthy playing career, mainly as a right‑back, and made more than 500 appearances for Athletic Club over 12 seasons.
He earned seven caps for Spain before moving to New York City FC between 2015 and 2016, after which he retired from playing.
Iraola’s first managerial role began in the summer of 2018 when he took charge of AEK Larnaca and helped them win the Cypriot Super Cup.
After a spell with Spanish second‑division side Mirandes, he joined Rayo Vallecano in 2020 and led them to promotion to La Liga in his first term at the helm.
