The Super Eagles of Nigeria, three‑time African champions, will face former European Championship winners Portugal in a highly anticipated international friendly, according to Afrik‑Foot.
Portugal use the match as their final preparation before the 2026 World Cup, where they will first play the Democratic Republic of Congo. Nigeria, which did not qualify for the World Cup, are using the friendly to build toward the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers that begin in September.
The fifth‑ranked Portugal are the favourites to secure a second win over Nigeria, following a 4‑0 victory in the first meeting between the two sides four years ago.

Only four players from the Nigerian squad that lost 4‑0 to Portugal in 2022 are in the starting lineup for this game – Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi, Moses Simon, and Wilfred Ndidi.
The Super Eagles are also in a better frame of mind, having not lost any of their last 20 or so games in regulation time under Eric Chelle.
Despite the absence of key players Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, Chelle remains confident that his new‑look Eagles can create challenges for Portugal.
Portugal, however, pose a greater threat in front of a partisan home crowd, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Chelsea’s Neto leading the attack, making them a formidable opponent for Nigeria.
