Today marks the election day for voters and politicians across seven states.

Ekiti State, with 1,059,360 registered voters, is hosting a governorship contest in which ten opposition parties are vying to unseat Governor Abiodun Oyebanji of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In addition, senatorial by‑polls will take place in Enugu, Rivers, Ondo, and Nasarawa, while Kano and Kebbi will hold by‑elections for the House of Representatives and the state assembly, respectively.

Ekiti governorship candidates

The candidates contesting Governor Oyebanji’s seat include Ambassador Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who is the party’s consensus candidate; Dr. Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Akande Oluwasegun Samuel of the Alliance for Change (AAC); and Opeyemi Falegan of Accord.

Other contenders are Ayodeji Ojo (ADP), Bidemi Olaiya Awogbemi (APP), Oyebanji Ikusayedegbe Olajuyin (Labour Party), Abegunde Ayobami Blessing (NNPP), Olaniyi Olanrewaju Ayodele (PRP), Owoola Daramola (YPP), and Victor Damilola Adetunji (ZLP).

While some of these candidates may not pose a serious challenge, their combined vote totals could affect the final margins.
