One-time English Premier League winners Leicester City have confirmed they’ll be without Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo for their Sky Bet League One campaign next season, Afrik Foot reports.

The Foxes were demoted from the English Premier League last season, and while their campaign showed they won’t be returning to the top-flight, it formed some belief that they could be stable in the bottom half of the EFL Championship.

However, all hopes went through the door after an independent commission imposed the six-point deduction penalty for breaching the English Football League’s (EFL) Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

The 29-year-old was a regular for Southampton under Coach Russell Martin, but lost his place under Will Still in the EFL Championship.

Aribo played just seven games for the Saints, all of which came from the bench. In a bid to salvage his career, he joined Leicester City on loan till the end of the season.

The former Rangers man played an additional six Championship games for the Foxes, although just one came with him included in the starting lineup.

In total, Aribo played just 241 minutes of football in the just-concluded EFL Championship season, and Leicester City have confirmed that he’s been relieved of his duties as a Fox.

‘Jordan James, Aaron Ramsey, Joe Aribo, Dujuan Richards and Divine Mukasa will return to their parent clubs following loan spells,’ the club wrote on their official website.

Aribo’s contract with Southampton expires this summer, and the Saints have confirmed they won’t be needing the services of the 34-cap Super Eagle anymore.

Resulting largely from his lack of gametime at the club level, Aribo’s last appearance in a Super Eagles shirt came in the AFCON 2023 final against Ivory Coast.
