Lawmaker criticizes chaos within opposition parties

The representative for Ideato North and South Federal Constituency of Imo State in the House of Representatives, Ikenga Ugochinyere, has urged opposition parties—specifically the African Democratic Congress, Nigeria Democratic Congress and the Labour Party—to cease internal attacks and instead concentrate on forging unity that can bolster democratic opposition nationwide.

In a press statement released on Monday, the lawmaker condemned the rising pattern of public disputes, accusations and needless confrontations among opposition figures, labeling them as childish and counter‑productive.

He said, “This is not the time for unnecessary fights and media attacks against one another. Nigerians expect the opposition to provide direction, hope, and credible alternatives, not endless quarrels that weaken collective strength.”

Ugochinyere emphasized that personal ambitions and ego‑driven politics must give way to cooperation, dialogue and strategic alliance‑building in the interest of the nation and its citizens.

He called on party leaders and members to focus on issues that affect Nigerians—such as insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment and governance challenges—rather than expending energy on internal divisions.

The APP chieftain added that unity remains the most powerful tool for any political movement seeking to inspire confidence among the populace and deepen democratic values.

“The people are watching. What Nigerians want to see is maturity, unity, and a common purpose. Opposition politics should not become a battlefield of insults and bitterness,” the statement concluded.
