Lagos to demolish buildings at the Alakija collapse site

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) announced that it will conduct a controlled demolition of the damaged buildings adjacent to the Alakija Bus Stop collapse site.

This decision comes after ongoing search, rescue and recovery operations at the scene in Satellite Town, Amuwo‑Odofin Local Government Area.

A joint structural assessment involving LASEMA, the Lagos State Building Control Agency and other emergency responders determined that the neighboring buildings were unsafe.

According to the agency, the deteriorated structures pose a serious danger to emergency personnel, nearby residents and the general public.

LASEMA said the demolition would be overseen by the appropriate authorities to prevent any secondary collapse.

It advised residents and members of the public to keep a safe distance from the affected area during the operation.

The agency also urged motorists and residents to follow all traffic and safety directives issued by emergency officials throughout the event.

LASEMA thanked residents for their understanding and cooperation, emphasizing that every decision taken at the site is aimed at protecting lives and property.
