Lagos temporarily closes Iddo Bridge for rehabilitation work.

The Lagos State Government announced on Tuesday that the Iddo Bridge in Ijora, Apapa Local Government Area, will be temporarily closed due to ongoing construction work.

The closure is intended to allow the installation of heavy steel bridge beams as part of the bridge’s rehabilitation and reconstruction program.

State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, made the announcement in a statement issued in Lagos.

Osiyemi explained that the installation will occur in two phases: from 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, to 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, and from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 21.

During these periods, the entire section of the bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic to ensure the safe installation of the steel beams by the Federal Ministry of Works.

“Consequently, the entire section of Iddo Bridge will be temporarily closed to vehicular movement during the periods stated above to ensure the safe installation of the steel beams on the bridge,” he said.

Osiyemi urged motorists to use alternative routes while the bridge is closed.

He advised drivers traveling from Oyingbo and Yaba to Ijora Olopa, Apapa, and Costain to use Funsho Williams Avenue to continue their journeys.

Motorists heading from Marina to Ijora Olopa, Apapa, and Costain should descend the ramp to access Iddo-Onigbe, connect through Oyingbo, and continue via Murtala Muhammed Way.

Those traveling from Ijora Olopa and Apapa toward Carter Bridge and Marina should use the Eko Bridge, connecting through Apapa Road and continuing via Murtala Muhammed Way, Iddo-Onigbe, and Carter Bridge.

Osiyemi appealed to road users to remain patient and cooperate with traffic management officials deployed to manage vehicular movement during the temporary closure.

He assured residents that adequate traffic control measures would be implemented to minimize inconvenience and maintain smooth traffic flow during the closure period. (NAN)
