Mudashiru Obasa, speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, announced his intention to run for the Agege Federal Constituency seat.
He made the announcement on Tuesday at a stakeholders’ meeting in Agege, Lagos, preceding the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries.
The sixth‑term lawmaker said that constituency party leaders urged him to pursue a seat in the House of Representatives.
He said consultations with stakeholders shaped his decision to formally enter the race for the federal legislative seat.
“I answered the call of our leaders and stakeholders who believe I can serve Agege better,” Obasa told party members.
He called on party members to stay united and committed as the party moves toward its primary elections.
Obasa also asked for backing for former Agege council chairman Ganiyu Egunjobi, who is contesting Agege Constituency I.
“Egunjobi has served our people diligently and deserves the support of all loyal party members,” he said.
He also sought support for Azeez Ninolowo, an aspirant for Agege Constituency II.
He noted that the constituency requires experienced and dedicated representatives who understand residents’ challenges.
“We must present candidates with capacity, loyalty and commitment to the progress of Agege,” Obasa added.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Obasa’s announcement expands the list of APC aspirants in Agege.
Supporters and loyalists of the various aspirants have stepped up mobilisation ahead of the party’s screening and primary exercises.
Residents of Agege and Orile‑Agege are closely watching developments as party leaders wrap up internal consultations.
Party members throughout Lagos State are also awaiting the results of the screening carried out by state and national leadership.
NAN notes that the declaration diverts attention from earlier speculation that linked Obasa to the Lagos governorship race.
