On Wednesday, residents from Agbado, a neighbourhood in Lagos State, staged a protest at the Ikeja Electric office to demand a resolution to a long‑standing power outage in the area.
The demonstrators, mostly women, blocked the entrance to the electricity distribution company’s office and called for an immediate restoration of power.
Residents said the blackout has lasted several weeks, hampering economic activity, disrupting households, and driving up costs as they depend on alternative power sources.
Some community members accused the company of not providing sufficient information about the cause of the outage or the expected restoration time.
They also claimed that complaints submitted to the company had received little response, which motivated the protest.
With placards and solidarity chants, the residents urged relevant authorities to intervene and secure a lasting solution to the electricity crisis.
In response, Ikeja Electric officials urged residents to remain calm, stating that the outage was due to technical problems.
The company assured the community that it was working to fix the fault and restore a stable supply.
The protest highlights increasing frustration among Lagos residents over recurring power supply challenges and the economic toll of prolonged blackouts on homes and businesses.
