The Lagos State Taskforce has issued a 72‑hour ultimatum to street traders and illegal occupants along the Alaba Rago corridor of the Mile 2–Badagry Expressway. The notice precedes a planned enforcement operation intended to restore environmental order in the area.
The directive was announced by Taskforce Chairman Adetayo Akerele on Wednesday in Lagos.
Akerele explained that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to enforce the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, along with other regulations designed to maintain environmental standards across the metropolis.
He said that persistent illegal trading and environmental violations along the corridor have prompted complaints from motorists, pedestrians, residents, visitors entering the country through the Seme border, and environmental stakeholders.
According to Akerele, the operation will target the proliferation of makeshift shops, illegal structures, mini brothels, used plastic depots, indiscriminate waste disposal, unregulated trading activities, and other environmental infractions affecting the area.
"Lagos State cannot ignore the level of illegal activities and environmental hazards here. This situation does not reflect the status of a modern megacity," Akerele said.
"Now is the time to enforce the laws and correct these abnormalities," he added.
