Lagos State officials announced that the Intelligent Transport System has logged more than 737,000 traffic violations, a move aimed at enhancing road safety, traffic control, and digital governance throughout the state.
Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Mr. Olatunbosun Alake, revealed the figure on Wednesday at the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing in Alausa, which was part of celebrations for the seventh anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu’s administration.
Alake emphasized that the state remains dedicated to leveraging innovation, science, and technology to bolster governance, enhance public services, and establish Lagos as Africa’s premier smart city.
He added that the ministry has advanced in areas including digital governance, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, science education, enterprise architecture, and smart city development.
Regarding the Safe City initiative, the commissioner noted that Lagos has upgraded its digital surveillance and traffic enforcement infrastructure in key locations across the state.
He said the initiative has led to increased traffic compliance, enhanced road safety, and more efficient security management.
“The Intelligent Transport System has recorded over 737,000 traffic violations to date, contributing to safer roads and better traffic behaviour across Lagos,” the commissioner said.
Alake also revealed that the ministry has made substantial strides in digitizing government operations via the Enterprise Architecture initiative.
He reported that of the 211 ministries, departments and agencies, approximately 192 have been evaluated, and 232 application workloads have been catalogued to standardize processes, lower IT project costs, and boost operational efficiency statewide.
The commissioner also highlighted the increasing use of digital government services via the Lagos State Digital Service Platform, which, he said, draws over 250,000 visitors each month.
