Tension as hoodlums attack Lagos Assembly spokesperson Ogundipe

By Ebunoluwa Sessou

Oshodi experienced tension on Monday morning after Stephen Ogundipe, spokesperson for the Lagos State House of Assembly, was attacked.

In a statement, Ogundipe said he was assaulted by suspected hoodlums while en route to meet supporters at his office. The confrontation followed the spread of a purported fake list in the media regarding the APC primary results in Oshodi-Isolo Constituency‑01.

Eyewitnesses reported that four masked men on two motorcycles trailed Ogundipe from Charity Bus Stop and intercepted his vehicle near Apakun in Oshodi. The attackers allegedly used stones and cutlasses, smashing the windshield and side door windows of his car. The driver’s swift departure from the scene reportedly averted a more serious outcome.

Ogundipe was left visibly shaken and traumatised. He is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Lagos.

Kayode Tinubu, Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Oshodi‑Isolo Local Government, who rushed Ogundipe to the hospital, expressed anger and concern. He described the attack as unfortunate and dangerous to Oshodi’s peace and stability, questioning why intra‑party disputes should turn violent and warning against a return to the crisis‑ridden era that preceded recent stability.

The incident has been officially reported to the Nigeria Police Force station in Makinde, Mafoluku‑Oshodi. Police have inspected the vehicle and the scene, and investigations are ongoing.

The attack has sparked widespread reactions from party loyalists and residents, many of whom have condemned the violence and called for calm, justice, and a thorough investigation.
