Fresh political tensions are emerging within the Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as several party stakeholders and grassroots supporters have reportedly intensified efforts against certain members of the Lagos State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 elections.
Investigations by party insiders indicate that many influential APC figures remain dissatisfied with the conduct of certain lawmakers during the leadership crisis that shook the Assembly earlier this year, describing the situation as a betrayal of the party’s long‑standing political structure and leadership tradition.
Lawmakers frequently cited in these discussions include Desmond Olushola Elliott, Temitope Adewale, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, Tobun Abiodun and Saheed Wasiu Obafemi, among others who are believed to have opposed the established leadership direction within the party.
Several APC loyalists argue that the crisis exposed serious fissures within the ruling party and embarrassed the state at a time when unity and coordination were expected to be paramount.
Stakeholders claim that the way the Assembly leadership battle unfolded raised serious concerns about loyalty, political maturity, consultation and respect for party hierarchy, especially in a state widely regarded as a stronghold of disciplined progressive politics.
Party sources say that many elders and grassroots mobilisers continue to express disappointment over what they describe as an “avoidable internal rebellion” allegedly driven by personal ambition and power calculations.
Some loyalists also insist that lawmakers in sensitive leadership positions should have safeguarded the stability of the House rather than intensified divisions that could damage the APC’s image both within and outside Lagos.
Although certain party members have called for leniency towards first‑term lawmakers who were reportedly influenced during the crisis, many stakeholders maintain that senior lawmakers and political actors allegedly involved should be held accountable politically.
The growing resentment may significantly influence the APC’s screening process and ticket allocation ahead of the 2027 elections, as many party faithful continue to demand strict loyalty and discipline from elected officials.
Political observers within the party now believe that the next round of primaries will be a major test of internal control, loyalty and the survival of the long‑established political structure that has shaped Lagos politics for decades.
