Ladi Adebutu Selected as Ogun PDP Candidate for 2027 Governorship Election

The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) selected Oladipupo Adebutu as its candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election.

Chairman of the Election Committee and national representative Ariyo Afolabi announced the decision in Abeokuta, the state capital, on Sunday.

Afolabi explained that after collating results from the 236 wards in the state’s 20 local government areas, the sole aspirant, Oladipupo Adebutu, was declared the party’s governorship candidate.

“The Ogun State governorship electoral panel hereby declares Honourable Oladipupo Olatunde Adebutu as the winner and consensus candidate,” he said.

In his acceptance speech, Adebutu thanked party leaders, stakeholders and members for placing their trust in him. He urged all party members to maintain a peaceful atmosphere, stating that this is the only way to regain control of the state.

Adebutu added, “Fellow party members, I humbly accept this call to serve with an enormous sense of responsibility, knowing fully well that the 2027 election is a must‑win for us to make yet another historic statement. Our victory lies largely in working together assiduously as one united party and people to convince the electorate why we are a better alternative to the failed APC administration. I wish to appeal to every member of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State to continue to operate within the ambience of peaceful conduct, which has brought us to where we are today. Peaceful coexistence is the only assurance that can guarantee our reclaiming of Ogun State from the hands of the clueless APC government and its allies,” he added.

Former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, a two‑term governor, congratulated Adebutu on his emergence as the party’s candidate, noting that the large turnout of party faithful showed hope for the PDP.

Ogun State PDP Chairman Abayomi Tella said the time for action had come and that the party had already begun preparations. He congratulated the governorship candidate and other primary winners, stating that their participation demonstrated genuine commitment to the party.
