Labour Party’s Burnham confirms he’ll seek to replace Starmer

Veteran UK politician Andy Burnham announced on Monday that he intends to run for the leadership of the ruling Labour Party and the position of prime minister, following Keir Starmer’s decision to resign.
Burnham, 56, urged an “orderly and responsible” transition and said, “I will put myself forward as part of this process,” in a post on X.
Former health secretary Wes Streeting, who had earlier indicated he would enter the leadership contest, now declared his support for Burnham, implying that the former Manchester mayor might assume the leadership without a formal contest.
