Kwara OPC leader heads mission to secure ransom for abducted person

A prominent leader of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) in Kwara State, Bayo Fabiyi, was abducted by bandits while attempting to deliver a N30 million ransom and other items requested for the release of a kidnapped individual in Oko‑Irese, Irepodun Local Government Area, according to DAILY POST.

The abduction of Fabiyi and two companions took place on Monday.

Comrade Zubair Olaitan, Coordinator of the Kwara South Joint Security Network, confirmed the incident to DAILY POST on Tuesday.

Olaitan praised the security forces engaged in fighting armed bandits along the Kwara–Kogi border, noting their efforts to curb criminal activity. He added that additional measures are needed, particularly regarding adequate logistics.

A member of the OPC, who also confirmed the abduction, assured that the captured leader would soon be released from the bandits’ captivity.

The bandits demanded N30 million, five motorcycles, and three bags of rice for the release of the abducted victim. Fabiyi and two others went to deliver these items, which led to their abduction.

Informed sources said that Fabiyi had consulted a female OPC spiritualist who warned him against the mission.

“The OPC woman warned Fabiyi not to go on the mission because she saw him tied by the armed bandits,” one source recounted. “To our surprise, our boss went ahead on the dangerous mission; we didn’t even know until the abduction occurred.”

However, the state Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, told our correspondent in a telephone chat, “I am not aware of kidnap incident.”
