Kpautagi Wins ADC Primary for Niger Governorship

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Niger State announced that Dr. Mohammed Kpautagi Mohammed has won the party’s governorship primary ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The result was declared by the State Returning Officer and Secretary of the ADC Primary Election Committee, Ibrahim Mohammed, during the official announcement of candidates for governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly seats at the IBB Guest House in Minna.

According to the committee, Kpautagi received 67,924 votes, defeating his rival Idris Usman, who garnered 27,769 votes across the state’s 25 local government areas.

Mohammed also announced the winners of the ADC’s senatorial primaries: Shehu Mohammed for Niger North, Muktar Ahmed for Niger East (unopposed), and Baba Shehu Agaie for Niger South.

The party’s House of Representatives candidates were revealed as follows: Mohammed Abubakar for Bida/Gbako/Katcha; Ado K. Abubakar for Tafa/Gurara/Suleja; Mohammed Ibrahim Abubakar for Mashegu/Wushishi/Kontagora/Mariga; and Abubakar M. Takuma for Lavun/Edati/Mokwa. Additional nominees include Mohammed Nazir Abdullahi for Magama/Rijau, Shitu Adamu Evuti for Lapai/Agaie, Jailani Inuwa for Agwara/Borgu, Dr. Alhaji Mohammed for Chanchaga, Abdulmali Kabir for Bosso/Paikoro, and Ismaila Ibrahim for Shiroro/Munya/Rafi.

For the State House of Assembly, the winners are Nasiru Waziri (Kontagora I), Bawa Joshua (Munya), Auta Solomon (Tafa), Nuhu Ibrahim (Gurara), Abdullahi Imam (Wushishi), Isah Mohammed (Edati), Abubakar Garba Mohammed (Suleja), Mairogo Hamisu (Borgu), Idris Ibrahim (Shiroro), and Riyanu Suleiman (Kontagora II). Other elected members are Abdulwahid Ahmed (Chanchaga), Shehu Haruna Marfa (Mariga), Mohammed Baba Sani (Mokwa), Yusuf Baba (Lavun), Mohammed Umar (Katcha), Adamu M. Wonigi (Agaie), Haruna Labaran (Rafi), Yusuf Aliyu (Bosso), Baba Abubakar (Bida I), and Mustapha Shuaib (Bida II).

In his statement, Ibrahim Mohammed said all candidates had met the party’s constitutional requirements and guidelines for the respective elective positions.
