Kogi health student dies in road accident after final exams

A young man named Ismail AbdulKarim, who had just finished his final examinations at the Community Health Department of Kogi State College of Health Sciences and Technology in Idah, was killed when a vehicle struck him near the Felele area of Lokoja, the state capital.

According to an eyewitness, the incident happened opposite Kogi State Polytechnic in Lokoja on Friday afternoon. The witness said AbdulKarim was trying to avoid a group of wheelbarrow pushers on the road when he was struck by an oncoming trailer traveling at high speed, which caused a fatal head injury.

AbdulKarim had arrived in Lokoja from Idah shortly before the accident and was on his way to visit relatives at the other end of the city.

A colleague of the deceased expressed his sorrow, saying, “After writing your final exams and heading to see your people, your life was cut short.”

The National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) described the death as heartbreaking and painful for the student community of the Kogi State College of Health Sciences and Technology in Idah.

Hassan Mustapha, President of the NAKOSS Idah chapter, said the deceased was a dedicated, humble, and promising young man.

Lawal Fagge, Kogi Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the incident, noting it occurred at about 5:28 p.m. on Friday opposite Kogi State Polytechnic. He identified the truck involved as having registration number KMC 23 YQ.

Fagge added that AbdulKarim sustained multiple injuries, including severe head trauma, and that his body was taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Lokoja for an autopsy.
