Kidnapping and other violent crimes alarm Nigerian government, says Olubadan.

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, has expressed concern over the rising rates of kidnapping and other violent crimes in Nigeria.

He made the statement on Monday during the installation ceremony of several Mogajis (family heads) and Baales (village chiefs) in the historic city.

According to our correspondent, fourteen Mogajis representing different families and seven Baales from various villages were installed at the event.

The ceremony took place at the Olubadan palace in the Oke Aremo area of Ibadan.

Attendees included members of the Olubadan-in-Council and other notable figures from within and outside the city.

Speaking through the Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, Ladoja described the prevalence of kidnapping and other social ills in the country as worrisome and alarming.

In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan, Chief Solomon Ayoade, the traditional ruler called on governments at all levels, other traditional rulers, and stakeholders to respond to the situation.

The Olubadan also urged the Oyo State Government, led by Engineer Seyi Makinde, and local government chairmen to begin profiling foreigners in the state, arguing that this would help track who enters and leaves the state at any given time.

Ladoja said, “It is worrisome the alarming rate at which people are being kidnapped, terrorized, maimed and killed nowadays.”
